J. Pablo Ortiz Hernández completed a B.A. in Hispanic philology from the University Autónoma of Guadalajara (México), and a M.A. in Spanish peninsular literature from the University of Calgary. He holds a Diploma in Creative Writing from Sociedad General de Escritores Mexicanos (SOGEM). He holds M.A. studies in Philosophy and Logics from UAG. He has taught summer sessions at the University of Arizona and the Beverly Hills Lingual Institute. He holds a dozen of publications for Ocho Columnas, Dissidences: Hispanic Journal of Theory and Criticism, Hipertexto, Etiópicas, Konvergencias, LEMIR, among others. He is a published poet (El sueño del dinero escarabajo y otros poemas, 2004; Ante la oscuridad, 2005; De no pedirle al viento la noche, hoy en el silencio, 2007). Nela Río and Ortiz co-edited the anthology: Dieciocho voces de la poesía hispano-canadiense (Acento Editores, México). Before moving to Canada, he was member of the faculty at Universidad Panamericana (Guadalajara): School of Communications and the Languages and Cultures Department. His Master’s thesis deals with 15th century Spanish cancionero tradition. His doctoral dissertation focuses on the Argentine poet Roberto Juarroz's late works (Roberto Juarroz's Vertical Fragments: the 'Silenced' Text as a Path towards Ontological Transcendence).
